UWorld Extends Investment in MD/PhD Scholars Through Goldwater Foundation Partnership

Alliance Continues for Third Year

The alliance, now in its third year, supports the development of next-generation STEM researchers

(DALLAS) January 13, 2026 – UWorld and the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation will partner for the third consecutive year to offer financial and product scholarships to undergraduates preparing for research careers in science, engineering, and mathematics.

UWorld, a global leader in comprehensive academic and professional education, is the foundation’s sole private-sector partner. Its philanthropic arm, UWorld Cares, will work with the foundation to announce winners in March and provide:

“UWorld was founded on the belief that educational opportunity fuels scientific progress,” said Chandra Pemmasani, MD, founder and CEO of UWorld. “Investing in the next generation of STEM and medical researchers aligns with our mission to give students the tools they need to reach their potential.”

The Goldwater Foundation celebrates its 40th anniversary this year and has supported more than 11,000 undergraduates through scholarships for students who demonstrate academic achievement, research experience, and a commitment to pursuing research careers. Scholars are selected through a competitive national process that evaluates essays, faculty recommendations, and their dedication to advancing scientific inquiry.

“We are grateful for UWorld’s continued partnership in supporting students preparing for research careers in medicine and science,” said Dr. John H. Yopp, chair of the foundation’s board of trustees. “Their generous scholarships and educational resources expand access to high-quality preparation for scholars pursuing physician-scientist training and strengthen the nation’s future workforce.”

Former Goldwater Scholars have gone on to pursue advanced research training in their fields. Amaya Pablo, a 2025-26 UWorld/Goldwater Scholar, is a senior at Northern Arizona University pursuing an MD/PhD in cancer biology with research focused on health challenges in Native American communities.

“I am from the village of Mishungnovi, a small Indigenous community in Arizona where there is little representation in medical spaces,” she said. “I want to increase Indigenous representation. Having MCAT prep material will help me achieve a higher MCAT score, which means I can get into a better medical school and learn techniques that will benefit my future patients.”

UWorld Cares has provided more than $22 million in product scholarships since 2020 and supported over 140,000 students through its philanthropic initiatives. For information, visit uworld.com/uworldcares.
