UWorld Announces over $70,000 in Grants and Product Scholarships to The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation

This partnership will empower the next generation of research leaders in STEM.

(DALLAS) Sept. 12, 2023 UWorld, a leading provider of learning tools for high-stakes exams, announced a donation of over $70,000 in grants and product scholarships to the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Education Foundation through its philanthropic arm, UWorld Cares. UWorld will serve as the first-ever private partner for the foundation, which administers one of the oldest and most prestigious national undergraduate scholarships for the next generation of research leaders in science, engineering, and mathematics.

UWorld’s donation expands the number of scholarship opportunities and provides best-in-class resources for the 2024 cohort of Goldwater Scholars. As part of the partnership, UWorld will also provide all 2024 Goldwater Scholars pursuing a MD/PhD access to their premier MCAT QBank. Additionally, six UWorld Goldwater Scholars will receive access to UWorld’s trusted USMLE Step 1 QBank. These resources will assist scholars as they prepare for their graduate school entrance and professional licensure exams that serve as crucial checkpoints for their future success.

“The Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation is pleased to welcome UWorld as its first private partner in support of the nation’s next generation of research leaders in the sciences, engineering, and mathematics,” said Dr. John Yopp, chair for the board of trustees of the Foundation. “A leader in developing test preparation materials for those interested in pursuing research careers in medicine, UWorld’s support will help ensure that additional students can pursue their MD/PhD research career dreams.”

The Goldwater Scholarship Foundation seeks to identify, encourage, and financially support college sophomores and juniors who show exceptional promise of becoming the nation’s next generation of research leaders in sciences, engineering, and mathematics. For more than 37 years, the Goldwater Scholarship Foundation has awarded over 10,000 scholarships to college sophomores and juniors. Many former Goldwater Scholars went on to receive other prestigious awards, including The National Science Foundation’s Graduate Research Fellowship, Rhodes Scholarship, Astronaut Scholarship, and the National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship and pursued PhDs in science, engineering, and mathematics.

“The Goldwater Foundation’s mission to nurture future leaders in science, engineering, and mathematics aligns with our goal to promote STEM excellence,” said Chandra S. Pemmasani, MD, founder and CEO of UWorld. “We are committed to supporting Goldwater Scholars with the resources they need to excel and be able to contribute pioneering advancements in their fields.”

The partnership underscores UWorld’s commitment to driving success in education by investing in the communities it serves through its company-wide philanthropic UWorld Cares program. Its funding focuses on partnering with organizations to expand and improve educational programs, including creating a stronger pathway to higher education, addressing workforce skills gaps, and removing barriers to higher education.

Since 2020, UWorld has granted more than $5.6 million in product scholarships to aspiring students and donated more than $5 million in renewed access and subscription extensions for users affected by COVID-19 exam delays. In 2022, employee donations and matching gifts from UWorld Cares totaled $50,000 in giving to more than 70 organizations nationwide.
